But where do top choreographers go when they want an outlet for pure dance experimentation and creativity, divorced from the demands of commercial profit and mass appeal? What started small has become a great big success with a reputation that has spread around the world. Now, the Carnival is held twice a year in London. New York, Sydney, Toykyo, as well as once nearly every month of the year in LA. Each show has a different line-up of choreographed dances that can range from ballet, modern and jazz to martial arts, old school, hip hop and krump, just to name a few.
At the World Famous Avalon, the main floor has a large, open space in front of the raised stage. Before the show starts -at 11:00 pm- bboyz, poppers, lockers and freestylers show off their moves as the club fills. By the time the show starts the place is at capacity. At the back of the club is the balcony where VIPs have reserved tables that overlook the stage. Guests have included celebrities, agents, and even members of various royal families. Dance is the greatest form of free expression. A story told through the motion of the body, love, fear, passion, anger and all of the journeys can be shown through the art of dance. This is Carnival.
